February/March 2019

Hi King Families!

We are about to enter our testing season at school.  All students, Grades K-5, will take the MAP test in reading and math the weeks of March 4 and March 11.  This test allows us to measure student growth since they took the test in September. TEsts are scheduled on different days and times for each grade level.  Please check with the teacher if you need to schedule any appointments during those testing weeks. Grades 3-4-5 will take Ohio Reading and Math tests in April.

PTA has been very busy already in 2019.  The enrichment classes were scheduled, rescheduled, made up due to snow days, and now complete.  Thanks to all those who taught classes, organized, delivered snacks and helped out. Special thanks to Mrs. Bryan and Mrs. Ricchiuti and Mrs. Smith for ensuring everyone got to their class and were picked up at dismissal.    Many families donated baskets or items for baskets for the Children’s basket raffle. We had over 40 baskets in the LRC the week of Feb. 19 for the drawing. Finally we are in the last few weeks of preparation for the annual Auction and Horse Race Fundraiser.  This event raises the money PTA budgets for next year for your children. Field trips, fall festival, pizza at meetings, materials for IB and gifted programs - just a few examples of how the money is used. Please support this fundraiser, get a few friends and come for a great evening on March 16. Night at the Races

Part of our IB Candidacy is to plan for action steps - ways to reach out to the community or to each other to demonstrate the Learner Profile traits we are developing with students.  We had our first day of caring here at King on Feb. 6. All students gathered in the gym to hear our 4th graders sing a few songs. The songs supported our theme of caring for others.  The students will travel to The Merriman nursing home soon to share those songs. All students were then paired up to walk the halls, stop and read together. Younger students shared their reading and books with older students.  It was wonderful to listen to them introduce themselves, share their book, and then say goodbye to their new caring partner. As teachers plan and instruct lessons in their IB units they will develop more action steps to enable students to reach out to others.

Please continue to slow down in the parking lot, follow the traffic pattern and PULL DOWN to the next open spot along the sidewalk at entrance and dismissal time.
